Top 10 Strangest animals living in the water: names and photos

Strange animals living in the water: names and photos – In various reservoirs sometimes amazing creatures are found. Rivers, seas and oceans are the ideal habitat for the most outlandish animals. There are at least 10 unique creatures that few people know about.

Amazon dolphin

The Amazon dolphin differs from the usual one, first of all, in that it lives in fresh water. And its main feature is that it does not have a fin on the back, but there is a very long nose. This amazing creature weighs about 150-160 kilograms, and its body length is 2.5 meters.

The main diet of Amazonian dolphins includes small fish. Surprisingly, these freshwater inhabitants are real gluttons. An adult eats about 8-12 kilograms of fish per day.

Lamprey

Lamprey is one of those rare underwater creatures that live in both fresh and salt water. The appearance of this animal causes some rejection. Since the lamprey looks like a large worm, ranging in length from 10 centimeters to 1 meter. She does not know how to swim, because she has neither fins nor a swimming bladder. But then the fish has as many as three eyes and about 100 sharp teeth. Lamprey is a predatory animal. But she does not have special preferences in food, since she is absolutely omnivorous.

Hellish vampire

A hellish vampire is a mollusk that justifiably got its name. The tentacles of the animal are connected in such a way that you might think that it is dressed in a red cloak. The hellish vampire, like the famous character, does not like sunlight. The rays of the sun do not penetrate into his home.

The body length of the mollusk is only 15-30 centimeters. The hellish vampire is absolutely not afraid of the dark, because it is completely covered with photophores. These are special organs that glow in the dark.

This animal feeds with sticky hairs that are located directly on its tentacles. With them, the mollusk collects detritus, that is, the smallest particles of dead organic matter.

Guidak

Guidak is the largest digging clam. The average weight of his body is 1-2 kilograms. However, there are individuals that weigh 6-7 kilograms. In the back of the animal’s body there is a siphon whose length is 2 meters.

Guidak is a true centenarian. His average life expectancy is 150 years. However, scientists found a mollusk, which survived to 168 years.

Giant jellyfish

Giant jellyfish really differ in impressive dimensions. The size of the bell of an adult is usually 80-100 centimeters. However, there are animals in which the diameter of the dome is 35-37 meters.

The usual diet of giant jellyfish includes small fish, crustaceans and zooplankton. However, they are still eager to engage in cannibalism.

Isopod

Isopod is a small cancer. The dimensions of his body range from 2 millimeters to 50 centimeters. Isopods absolutely can not swim, they only slowly crawl along the ocean floor. And all because these creatures have too heavy shells that prevent them from floating freely in the water.

Isopods feed mainly on carrion. However, sometimes they prey on sea cucumbers and sea sponges. Occasionally, crayfish feast on plants.

Gavial

Gavial is one of the rarest species of crocodiles. This predator lives in rivers with a rapid current. The gavial has a very long jaw, on which about a hundred uneven sharp teeth are located. Males grow up to 5 meters in length, and females – only up to 3.5 meters. These animals feed mainly on fish, but they do not disdain carrion.

Moon fish

The Moon Fish was named so because the shape of its body resembles a large disk. This strange creature has no scales, it is covered with a grayish-blue skin and mucus. Moonfish reaches 2.5 meters in length. Its main menu includes plankton and small fish.

Mud Jumper

Mudskipper is one of those rare fish that can move on land. The average body length of this animal is 25 centimeters. The fish has an incredibly large head, on its top there are two convex eyes without eyelids. Because of this, the animal looks very strange. Mudskipper mainly feeds on algae and small insects.

Lesser Macropinna

Lesser Macropinna is one of the little-studied creatures. And all because this fish has an absolutely transparent head, which is covered with a dome. If the animal is raised to the surface, then it is destroyed. But what is most surprising, the eyes of a small-sized macropin are located directly under this dome.

Researchers are still engaged in a detailed study of the life of this fish. However, they have not yet managed to find out a lot of reliable facts. It is only known that the small-mouthed macropinna is a real predator.

These were the most unusual representatives of the underwater world. Moreover, each of them is somewhat interesting in its own way.
