Definition: Dog has diarrhea
Diarrhea if the dog is manifested by the appearance of non-solid or shaped droppings for a single day or over several days, but pulpy or watery stool. Often this is associated with sudden unexpected defecation.
The isolated diarrhea is often a cleansing action from the body after contact with intestinal toxins. Persistent diarrhea may indicate irritation of the intestinal mucous membranes and should be investigated.
Acute diarrhea lasts only a few days, while diarrhea is called chronic if it lasts longer than 2 weeks. If your dog has alternating diarrhea and normal bowel movements, this should also be checked out.
If your dog suffers from diarrhea, its gastrointestinal flora is not in balance. The longer diarrhea lasts, the more his immune system suffers.
The causes of diarrhea can sometimes be completely harmless, so you should first of all keep calm.
However, if diarrhea lasts longer, it can be a sign of a serious illness. In this case, your dog must be examined by the veterinarian.
You can usually tell pretty quickly that your dog has diarrhea: the droppings are much softer than usual, almost runny. In addition, your dog has to do it more often than usual and sometimes does not manage to keep the pile outside.
Your dog’s diarrhea doesn’t always have to be completely liquid, it occurs in different stages:
