Animals come in all shapes and sizes. Some are pleasant, lovely, and generally pretty in appearance. But there are those that look much worse than you can ever imagine. However, some of these “horror stories” are actually harmless. Which of the animals can boast a frightening appearance and at the same time be harmless to humans?
The goliath tarantula causes quiet horror at just looking at it. This subspecies of spiders is the largest in the world! They have poison, but in terms of strength and harm, the bites of these spiders can hardly be compared to a wasp sting. In fact, they look much more dangerous than what harm they can do.
The whale shark is the largest fish in the world, reaching a length of almost 13 m. Despite their size, these giants of the underwater world are completely harmless. Sometimes young individuals of this subspecies even play with divers.
This Australian moloch lizard, called the prickly devil, makes a creepy first impression. Her “armored” body is covered with many spikes, and in length it grows to 20 cm. He only eats only ants, but does not touch anyone else. But if something threatens him, then this formidable animal can shoot … blood from his eyes. Again, just to scare, and nothing more.
Chinese giant salamander
Reaching a length of up to 1.8 m, the Chinese giant salamander is the largest amphibian in the world. Despite its terrible appearance and size, it eats only insects, frogs, crabs and small fish. This animal is now in danger of extinction.
The “reputation” of vampire bats can inspire fear. They really suck blood and “come into the light” only at night. They only feed on the blood of animals, most often livestock. They can also bite a person, but this happens very, very rarely. In addition, it is impossible to become a vampire after their bite.
This fish at first glance looks like someone’s nightmare. But actually it’s just a small fish – a small, deep-sea mesopelagic radiant. It lives in tropical and subtropical waters. Reaching a length of about 12 cm, this small individual can not harm anyone.
In addition to their frightening appearance, these little lemurs, originally from Madagascar, are sometimes also considered harbingers of death. But the fact remains – these primates, leading a nocturnal lifestyle and eating fruits, do not pose a danger to people.
It looks like a mixture of a spider and a scorpion, but still refers to subspecies of scorpions. These individuals look very scary, but they do not have poisonous glands, and in length they reach no more than 3 cm. However, scorpion whips spray a mixture of acetic and caprylic acid when someone or something threatens them. But this “prank” can hardly be compared with a real scorpion bite.
European yellow-tailed scorpion
As for the scorpions in general, out of approximately 1750 known species – no more than 25 have poison, deadly to humans. European yellow-tailed scorpion is one of the least dangerous individuals. It grows in length to about 4.5 cm and has a rather formidable appearance. But his bite resembles a bee, both in strength and in consequences.
Giant african millipede
The giant African millipede is one of the largest in the world. This tropical arthropod has … 256 legs. But the diet of this individual is only organic matter and decaying plants. Therefore, it does not pose any harm and danger to humans. In some countries they are even bred at home – well, such a pet.
With a wingspan of more than 3 m, vultures also have one of the most terrible reputations among all birds. They look really scary, but they belong to scavengers. This means that vultures feed only on dead individuals. Therefore, while a person is alive, this bird is not dangerous to him.
This gigantic, endangered reptile currently lives only in certain regions of India and Nepal. The teeth of this huge crocodile look formidable and dangerous, but in fact its jaws are very thin and fragile. Therefore, they are not able to eat something too big (say, like a person).
Milk snakes are known for their striking resemblance to the extremely poisonous coral snake. But this is just mimicry, which serves to scare away predators. At the same time, the milk snake is completely harmless.
