The terrible fires in Australia resulted in the death of many animals, as well as the loss of their natural habitat – many creatures were literally left homeless. Among these is Eleanor, a somewhat robust Echidna, who found herself colliding with a car (luckily the accident was not fatal!). Echidna is also known by the name of thorny anteater and, like the platypus, it represents a primitive link between the most advanced reptiles and mammals. It must not have been a good time when Eleanor, the plump echidna, found herself face to face with the bumper of a car.
Fortunately, there were no serious consequences. The animal was so robust and strong that it perfectly resisted the impact. The cute Echidna was immediately taken to the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Hobart, Tasmania, where she immediately received the necessary treatment. Let’s face it: without all that fat in the body, Eleanor would not have coped with just a few bruises!
The Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary also commented on what happened in a post on their Facebook page: “Probably the fattest echidna we’ve ever seen! This young lady was hit by a car, but luckily she only reported a couple of light bruises. Now she has been freed. Isn’t she wonderful? ”
